Show off your pizza making skills with making your very own pizza dough and tomato sauce!
Makes 2x 23 cm bases
Ingredients:
Pizza base:
- 300 g white bread flour
- 1 tsp dried fast action yeast
- 1 tsp salt
- 200 ml tepid water
- 1 tbsp olive oil
Sift the flour, yeast and salt together into a large bowl. Stir together the water and oil, make a well in the center of the flour and pour in the water. Mix to make a soft, pliable but not sticky dough. Add a little more water if needed. Turn out into a lightly floured surface and knead for about 10 mins until smooth and elastic. Shape the dough into a ball and place in an oiled bowl and cover with oiled cling film. Leave the rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until it doubles in size.Turn out onto a lightly floured surface and knock back the risen dough for a couple of minutes. Divide into two pieces and using a lightly floured rolling pin roll out onto a lightly floured work surface into two 23 cm round pizzas.
Tomato sauce base for pizza:
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 medium sized onion finely chopped
- 1 large clove of garlic finely chopped
- 1x 400 g can chopped tomatoes
- salt and ground black pepper
- sugar to taste
Heat the oil in a heavy based pan and add the onions and cook until softened, about 5 mins. Stir every now and then. Add the garlic and cook for about 1 min. Add the chopped tomatoes and bring it slowly to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer for about 10 mins. Stir every now and then. Remove it from the heat and season to taste with salt, pepper and a bit of sugar. Blend it with a stick blender or normal blender until smooth. Return it to the pan and simmer further if the sauce is too watery to spread on the dough.
For the pizza:
- Pre-cooked chicken pieces
- Mushrooms
- 1 Garlic clove
- Ham
- Fresh herbs
- Mozzarella cheese
- Black pepper
Preheat the oven to 220 C. Place a baking sheet on a baking try. Move the ready made dough onto the baking trays. Fry some mushrooms in a pan with butter and a garlic clove. Spread the tomato sauce over the pizza dough. Add the chicken, ham, mushroom onto the pizza, then generously sprinkle some grated mozzarella cheese over, then decorate it with some freshly chopped herbs and freshly ground black pepper.
